Getting to Know the Brothers

The six boys have officially been introduced to their new sister and are getting to know her. A lot of people have asked how the boys, especially the younger ones, are doing with their new hair-bow wearing sibling.

The true answer is: absolutely great. It’s like these boys were missing having a little sister to look out for or something. That’s not to say the 2-year-old has enjoyed his promotion to 100% not the baby. There have been some fits. But he hasn’t held his little sister responsible for any of the changes he’s not so keen on.

But how the boys are doing and/or what they think of their new sister is only half of the question. The other big question is: what does she think of her six big brothers?

Well, the good news is I speak newborn so I talked it over with her and here’s what she told me about her impression of her brothers.

The 11-year-old. She said he seems like he probably won’t drop her. He mentioned she smelled like a baby the first time he held her and she wasn’t sure how to take that. He did seem like he had held babies before so he’d know better if she smelled like a baby than she would. He seems to have recently received a poor haircut.

The 10-year-old. She said she thinks he must hide behind the furniture because if ever Mom puts her in the bassinet and she starts to cry he suddenly appears and picks her up. He knows how to rock and talk to a baby. Apparently he doesn’t like to eat his vegetables very well. Once he can understand her she will talk to him about not being afraid of his vegetables.

The 8-year-old. She said she’s not sure which one he is. Or rather, she knows him as the one she sees the least. She knows he wants to hold her but the older brothers often beat him to it. He doesn’t seem to like standing around looking at her the way the younger ones do. She doesn’t hold this against him though and figures she’ll get a chance to know him better soon.

The 7-year-old. She said he seems like he probably would drop her. But she knows he wouldn’t do it on purpose. He seems very big for his age and like he would be a good body guard. Unless a really cool bug happened to land nearby. He is very into bugs. She said she will stay on his good side nonetheless, and maybe try to look a little more like a roly poly.

The 5-year-old. She said that kid smiles a lot. She sees him peeping over her bassinet and he always has bright eyes shining above a big grin. He seems to be pretty bossy at times but he’s also very attentive to her cries. She likes the attention so she'll put up with the bossiness.

The 2-year-old. She said everyone seems nervous when he comes near her, like he might suddenly lick her or something. He does seem sort of like a big puppy the way he likes to come lie down right by where she’s sleeping. However, he’s always super sweet to her and she takes the lying down nearby as a sign of loyalty. She says she’ll keep him.
